This section, if has any aim at all, is to offer the experiences of a fifty-something gay man in Leith, Scotland. Leith was once a pretty rough area, but over the last three decades has become much more affluent, and can now be described as mixed. Like many once-rough areas, there is an ambivalence to homosexuality. The man who loudly decries "poofs" in the pub can often later be found trying to pick one up. You will know the type I mean. The place is integral to my life, and to the stories we tell here. Let's begin with possibly my favourite gay tale, which nicely illustrates the fusion of gay and straight societies. (The picture isn't me, btw, but you can always dream.... )
