And finally...
Home Up In Touch

16 October 1999

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. And yet...

Immortality is the memory, the contribution, the influence a person had on those who remain. Which in Percy's case was huge, and not only on myself. His life and his words have had, and always will have, the most profound effect on me - at least equalling anyone I've been lucky enough to have known. And so his life will continue, on this board which is now going ballistic with hits, and in our other writings present and still to come.

His funeral was nice, with the predicted big turn-out. It was of a Christian nature, but the Minister took the trouble to paint a short but loving eulogy of the man, his wife and his children. I think all who attended were pleased. The only hymn was Abide With Me, during which - in my wicked mind - I fondly imagined Percy laughing his way through the Pearly Gates, to begin his next great adventure - Celestial Electrician. After all, his little earthly sideline was called FB Electrics, the FB standing for Flash Bang!

Our love to Ishbel, Zoe and Robin. Our thanks to Mary for being Percy's great friend, and for the spread in the Port after the funeral. And our extra thanks to Alastair and Ian for providing a safe and loving evening. Plus of course, Stuart for putting up with me. How blessed I still am.

Now, for the sake of our global readership, we must return to matters more general.
