Mary graduated MA from the University of Aberdeen. She started her personnel and training career in the private retail sector before moving to the training function within a large local authority. After a period as West of Scotland Training Manager for a retail chain, Mary returned to local government. She became a Senior Training & Development Officer with responsibility for the development, delivery and assessment of management and staff development and training programmes.
Mary gained the Assertiveness Diploma of the Redwood Women's Training Association in 1994. She qualified as an Investors in People Adviser in 1998.
Mary has lectured in Further Education colleges on management modules and on a NEBS management course. She has also run continuing education courses at the University of Strathclyde and in a number of FE colleges.
