Biofiltration media
The performance of a nitrifying bacteria filter (Biofilters) is closely related to the type of bacterial support media used. Aspects of importance are the surface area per unit volume, water distribution and flow characteristics when passing through the media, non-blocking properties and a low weight per unit volume for the packing. The material from which the packing is constructed should also have a micro environment suitable for colonization by nitrifying bacteria. Many plastic packing are of PVC construction which could be toxic to fish, molluscs, crustaceans and certain bacteria, our packing is non toxic polyethylene or polypropylene.
The packing and quality of the media which we provide meets all of the above criteria and in our opinion is the most suitable packing material for bacterial filters.
